Abstract

Abstract

Rapid changes taking place in the globe in socio-economic aspects and advancements in information and communication technology necessitate the introduction of changes and innovations into the school curriculum from time to time. Teachers are one of the crucial entities responsible for the implementation of such curriculum changes and innovation.  As such, it is important to evaluate teachers’ responses towards changes introduced to the school curriculum. Therefore, curriculum developers should probe teacher's responses and make necessary interventions into the implementation process. Concern-Based Adoption Model (CBAM) has been widely used for this purpose. CBAM can be used to investigate to what extent the innovations of the educational system are being implemented, both quantitatively and qualitatively. According to the probes, CBAM suggests intervening strategies for more successful implementation of curriculum innovations. The objectives of this research paper were to identify the uses of CBAM in the implementation of curriculum innovation and to determine to what extent the CBAM is used in the evaluation of curriculum implementation in the Sri Lankan context. In order to achieve these objectives, CBAM-related studies were selected and reviewed through Internet search engines and library research. Findings of this study reveal that the CBAM has not been widely used in curriculum implementation studies in Sri Lanka, although it has recently been used extensively in evaluating curriculum implementation. It is recommended that researchers in Sri Lanka consider applying CBAM in evaluating the implementation of curriculum innovation.
